Who is Blake?

"Get ready to shake that fringe because this is a big punchy pop swagger that suggests the Dave Clark Five have spent the last 40 years in sub-zero rejuvenation tanks, only to emerge as pointy-booted 21st century pop warriors. Very catchy, very good." Overplay

Idiosyncratic, a bit acoustic, a bit electric, Blake’s music is distilled from a wealth of influences. Described by one reviewer as "fruit salad for the soul", Blake's sound contains an exotic mix of flavours as he combines elements of sweet jangly pop, sweaty Britrock, glam, electronica, folk and soul, and "wraps your ears into a toasty duvet of good vibes."

Blake

 Is he any good?

Blake is a DIY musician and records at his home studio playing all the instruments on his songs. He cites The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Bevis Frond, Danny Kirwan, Hamell on Trial and Richard Thompson as his primary influences. Blake is a keen record collector and his eclectic music taste is reflected in the many different styles of song he has released ranging from heavy rock to electronica to folk ballads. He has been variously compared with Badly Drawn Boy, The Monkees and, by someone who was a bit confused by his name, Il Divo. Here's what some other people had to say about his music:

"an eclectic mix of classic 60s sounds with a touch of early 70s and a sprinkling of the 80s.. FAR OUT !!!" The music was so groovy i came back for another listen..Check this dude out, folks.. ."
Todd Dillingham

"Intelligent, soulful pop that’s more seductive than a box of After Eights." Overplay

"a pulsating, trippy nod to the late 60s, this talented, Bath, England-based artist is one to watch and groove to for the long haul.”  Alan Haber, Buhdge

“Like the tracks that follow, She's Not All That is a perfect pop song with catchy riffs, tight harmonies and a memorable and sing-a-long chorus.” Stephen Morris, BBC Gloucestershire

“I really love this song!” ('You Could Be Part Of My Dreams') DJ Steve Garnett, 92.5 Cheshire FM

"playing 'Girls' at club -  kind of art school in its old school tape sound but no less interesting" DJ Keiron Club EVOL The Liquid Room, Edinburgh.

"non manufactured sound - a lot of talent here. A listed" Burst FM Bristol

"Like his previous releases, Blake's eclectic musical sensibilities shine through on the twelve tracks on offer here." Time Out

"sit back and enjoy carefully constructed songs and wonderful vocal harmonies...as they say "Let the music do the talking" Gloucester Citizen

"The Monkees whip up some cream and melt some chocolate whilst the remnant Beatles ponder the cosmic comebacks of wife beating and swapping juices with Eric Clapton…meanwhile The Kinks invent punk rock."
